Vietnam’s industrial production index (IIP) in October 2025 rose by an estimated 2.4 percent month-on-month and 10.8 percent year-on-year, marking one of the strongest monthly performances this year, according to the latest data from the National Statistics Office (NSO).
Over the first ten months, the IIP increased by 9.2 percent compared to the same period last year.
Sector performance
Processing and manufacturing remained the key driver, up 11.4 percent year-on-year in October.
Electricity production and distribution rose 11.0 percent, while water supply, waste and wastewater management increased 12.2 percent.
Mining expanded by 3.1 percent.
From January to October, processing and manufacturing climbed 10.5 percent, contributing 8.5 percentage points to overall growth.
Water supply and waste management rose 9.0 percent, electricity 6.8 percent, and mining slipped 0.1 percent.
Key industries
Several key subsectors posted strong gains over the ten-month period.
Motor vehicle production increased by 23.5 percent, rubber and plastic products by 17.3 percent, and non-metallic minerals by 16.8 percent.
Metal production grew 13.8 percent, garments 13.3 percent, prefabricated metal products 12.8 percent, and leather and related goods 11.2 percent.
Food processing rose 10.4 percent, while furniture, paper, and wood-based products each advanced by around 10 percent.
Electronics and computer production rose 8.2 percent.
Weaker results were seen in machinery and equipment manufacturing, up just 3.9 percent, coal and lignite mining up 3.4 percent, and crude oil and natural gas extraction down 4.1 percent.
Employment trends
The number of industrial workers as of 1 October 2025 rose by 0.8 percent from September and by 3.6 percent year-on-year.
State-owned enterprises saw a 0.1 percent monthly and 2.6 percent annual increase, while foreign-invested firms rose 0.9 percent and 4.1 percent respectively.
Employment in non-state enterprises climbed 1.0 percent month-on-month and 2.2 percent year-on-year.
