Vietnam’s exports to the USA surge in October, driven by strong growth in key sectors

Vietnam’s exports to the United States reached US$10.55 billion in October, marking a 6.39 percent month-on-month increase from September’s figure of US$9.92 billion. This data highlights the robust trade relationship between the two nations and Vietnam’s strong performance across various export sectors. These include:

Electronics and machinery

High-tech exports continued to dominate, with computers, electrical products, and spare parts topping the list at US$1.81 billion. This category saw a stable growth rate of 0.05 percent, reflecting sustained demand. Meanwhile, machinery, equipment, tools, and instruments followed closely, generating US$2.49 billion in October with a solid growth of 6.58 percent.

Garments, apparel, and footwear

Traditional export sectors saw notable gains. Textiles and garments, a long-standing strength, recorded exports worth US$1.29 billion, growing by 5.60 percent. Footwear, another key export, surged by 17.01 percent to reach US$686.04 million, while wood and wooden products experienced a 14.72 percent rise, hitting US$849.76 million.

Plastic and fisheries products

Plastic products emerged as a standout performer, with exports rising by a remarkable 19.61 percent to US$290.47 million. Similarly, fishery products reached US$195.18 million, showing a growth of 13.87 percent, reaffirming Vietnam’s position as a leading seafood supplier to the US.

Telecommunication exports fall

Despite the broad overall growth, exports of telephones, mobile phones, and parts did experience a slight fall of 1.45 percent, totalling US$696.27 million.

Outlook moving forward

With year-to-date exports to the US standing at US$98.71 billion, Vietnam is on track to further strengthen its position as a key trading partner for the US. The country’s performance in October highlights its adaptability and competitive edge in both traditional and high-tech sectors.

That said, there is some uncertainty around the trade relationship between Vietnam and the US with the election of Donald Trump to another term which could be problematic moving forward.
