Vietnam’s Consumer Price Index rose 0.05 percent month on month in January 2026, driven mainly by higher pork prices, increased eating-out costs during the Lunar New Year, and stronger demand for home maintenance and renovation, according to the latest release from the National Statistics Office.
On a year-on-year basis, the CPI increased 2.53 percent, while core inflation rose 3.19 percent.
Nine of eleven major goods and services groups recorded price increases, led by housing, electricity, water, fuel and construction materials, which rose 0.70 percent and contributed 0.16 percentage points to overall inflation, reflecting higher gas, electricity, water, rent and home repair costs.
Food and beverage prices increased 0.20 percent, with food prices up 0.29 percent and eating-out costs up 0.44 percent, while beverages and tobacco rose 0.58 percent due to higher seasonal demand.
Household goods and appliances increased 0.26 percent, clothing and footwear rose 0.25 percent, medicines and medical services rose 0.19 percent, culture, entertainment and tourism increased 0.07 percent, and education edged up 0.05 percent.
Two groups recorded price declines, with transport prices falling 2.32 percent due to lower fuel prices, and information and communication prices down 0.15 percent amid continued price cuts and promotions for electronic devices.
Core inflation increased 0.35 percent month on month and 3.19 percent year on year, exceeding headline inflation as food and energy prices were excluded from the calculation.
