Vietnam’s chemical paint production for December 2024 is projected to be 139,200 tons, with an estimated total of 1.4 million tons for the entire year, according to Vietnam’s General Office of Statistics. This reflects a year-on-year increase of 6.4 percent compared to 2023, indicating steady growth in the sector.
In November 2024, the country produced 130,400 tons of chemical paint, showing solid output despite a slight increase in December.
Vietnam’s chemical paint production is an important segment of the country’s manufacturing sector, supporting the construction, automotive, and industrial markets. The sector produces a wide range of paints and coatings, including decorative paints for homes and buildings, automotive paints, industrial coatings, and coatings for electronics and other goods. With the country’s rapid industrialisation and growing urbanisation, the demand for high-quality paints and coatings has risen significantly.
Major players in the paint industry include both domestic companies like Hoa Binh Paint and international brands such as AkzoNobel, Jotun, and Nippon Paint, which have established production facilities in Vietnam. These companies produce a variety of products catering to both the domestic market and export needs, with growing exports to regional and global markets.
Vietnam’s chemical paint production largely relies on imported raw materials, including pigments, resins, solvents, and additives, which are critical to achieving desired performance characteristics like durability, color, and texture. As a result, the sector faces challenges related to fluctuations in the prices of raw materials and the need to maintain supply chain stability.
The Vietnamese government has encouraged the development of the paint industry by offering incentives for domestic production and by supporting infrastructure projects, such as large-scale construction and urban development, that drive the demand for paint products. Additionally, there is a growing emphasis on environmentally friendly paints, including water-based and low-VOC (volatile organic compounds) paints, as part of Vietnam’s broader sustainability goals.
Vietnam’s chemical paint production industry is expected to continue growing, supported by infrastructure expansion, the demand for high-performance coatings in various sectors, and increasing environmental awareness that drives innovation toward greener and more sustainable products.
