Vietnam’s tech sector has been hit with a wave of layoffs on the back of reduced demand but also a lack of skills, VN Express is reporting. It’s quoting data from TopDev which found that almost 90 percent of companies were looking to recruit less than 50 programmers this year, as opposed to just 75 percent last year. It goes on to say that over the COVID-tech boom, local firms had to scale up by hiring staff with limited training and skills. Now that the boom has ended, and demand is low, tech firms are cutting their lowest-skilled workers in what one industry player has dubbed ‘a purification of personnel’.
