Vietnam’s stock market rallied sharply on 6 October, with the VN-Index climbing 3.02 percent to close at 1,695.50 points, according to the latest data from the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange → view source.
Trading value surged to about VND 32.25 trillion (US$1.24 billion), reflecting renewed risk appetite after weeks of sideways movement.
Large-cap stocks led the advance, with the VN30 Index rising 3.20 percent to 1,918.97 points on turnover of VND 19.46 trillion.
Gains were broad-based, as mid- and small-cap indices also posted gains of 3.9 and 2.4 percent respectively.
Among sectors, materials and financials outperformed, up 4.39 and 3.92 percent, respectively.
The VNFINLEAD Index jumped 4.45 percent, while the VNREAL Index—tracking real estate—rose 2.75 percent amid optimism about lower interest rates.
Foreign investors remained net sellers, offloading VND 1.86 trillion (US$70.5 million).
They sold VND 4.99 trillion and bought VND 3.13 trillion, representing 15.37 and 9.64 percent of total market value.
Hoa Phat Group (HPG) dominated trading, with 26.8 million shares exchanged worth VND 773.2 billion, followed by Saigon–Hanoi Bank (SHB) and FPT Corporation (FPT).
