Vietnam’s State Treasury raised VND 7.65 trillion (US$290.3 million) in government bond auctions on May 13, with demand concentrated in shorter tenors as longer-dated bonds saw limited investor appetite, according to data from the Vietnam Bond Market Association.
The Treasury had called for bids worth VND 16.5 trillion (US$626.2 million), including VND 3 trillion in five-year bonds, VND 12 trillion in 10-year bonds, VND 1 trillion in 15-year bonds and VND 500 billion in 30-year bonds.
Five-year bonds were fully subscribed, with VND 3 trillion issued at a yield of 3.92 percent, up 3 basis points from the previous auction session. Ten-year bonds saw VND 4.6 trillion issued, representing a 38 percent winning ratio, with yields rising 2 basis points to 4.19 percent.
Demand for longer-dated debt remained weak. The Treasury issued just VND 50 billion in 15-year bonds at a yield of 4.27 percent, while no bids were accepted for the 30-year tenor.
Year to date, the State Treasury has issued around VND 138.71 trillion (US$5.26 billion) in government bonds, completing about 27.7 percent of its VND 500 trillion (US$18.98 billion) issuance target for 2026.
Ten-year bonds have accounted for the bulk of issuance so far this year, with VND 128.27 trillion raised, or around 94.1 percent of the total. Five-year bonds followed with VND 8.21 trillion issued, while 15-year bonds accounted for VND 2.2 trillion.
