Vietnamese animated series Wolfoo, has been licensed by the China National Radio and Television Administration to be shown on television in Vietnam’s neighbour to the north, The Leader is reporting.
Why it matters: Sconnect, the makers of Wolfoo are currently embroiled in a copyright infringement lawsuit in the UK with EOne, the creators of Peppa Pig. It’s alleged that Wolfoo used Peppa Pig content without permission to imply that the two cartoons were made by the same people. The dispute has been ongoing for two years now with the issue being raised in the UK and Hanoi as well as Moscow courts. Incidentally, Peppa Pig was banned in China back in 2018 although this decision appears to have been reversed. It’s not clear what, if any, significance Wolfoo being licensed in China might have with respect to any of these issues, but it’s an interesting turn of events nonetheless.
