Vietnam’s exports to the United States in April reached US$12.02 billion, up 1.5 percent from US$11.85 billion in March, according to the latest data from Vietnam Customs. Imports from the US were also up, reaching US$1.57 billion, an increase 4.3 percent from US$1.50 billion in March.
Combined, total trade turnover was US$13.59 billion, up 1.8 percent compared to March. Year-to-date, Vietnam’s exports to the US increased to US$43.42 billion, while imports totalled US$5.67 billion, resulting in a trade surplus of US$37.75 billion.
Notably, this improvement comes after the US announced a 46 percent tariff on goods entering the US from Vietnam. This has, however, been put on hold for 90 days, and in this context these numbers might suggest US firms are purchasing more to try and get in ahead of said deadline.
