Semiconductors: Vietnam begins construction of first fully locally led chip factory

Vietnam’s CT Semiconductor has broken ground on Vietnam’s first chip plant developed entirely with Vietnamese technology. The factory aims to produce 100 million chips annually by 2027, with operations starting in Q4 2025, VietnamNet has reported.

Key details:

  • Located in Thuan An, Binh Duong, the facility spans 30,000 m² and will cost nearly US$100 million.
  • Backed by CT Group, this is the second phase of its ATP chip plant project and the first locally led OSAT (outsourced semiconductor assembly and test) facility in Vietnam.
  • The site will feature a smart factory system and cleanroom, built with expertise from veterans of TSMC plant projects.
  • The initiative aligns with Government Decision 1017, Resolution 57, and Resolution 03 on developing Vietnam’s semiconductor industry.

Vietnam’s first locally owned chip factory marks a milestone in tech self-reliance and industrial strategy, boosting its ambition to become a regional semiconductor hub. This is, however, early days and it may still take a while before the first chips roll off the assembly line.
