A radio appearance by the husband of a Norwegian citizen convicted of smuggling Norwegian salmon from Vietnam to China in 2018, has reopened an old wound for one of Norway’s biggest salmon producers, Salmar, IntraFish is reporting.
Of interest, is that the accused was moving salmon from Vietnam to China illegally due to a ban on Norwegian salmon imports that was introduced in retaliation for Norway awarding a Chinese dissident the Nobel Prize in 2010. This is yet another example of Vietnam being used to circumvent trade restrictions–whereas it is often reported that other way, as in Chinese firms trying to circumvent US regulations by shipping goods through Vietnam, it’s worth noting that it does go both ways.
