Porsche + Singapore EV charging solution provider to build charging network in Vietnam

Charge+, a leading integrated EV charging solution provider for Southeast Asia and Singapore, has partnered with Porsche to launch a 1,700km EV charging network in Vietnam. This initiative will see 17 DC ultra-fast charging sites across the entire country over the next three years.

The first nine sites with charging speeds of up to 180 kW power rating will be up and running by the first half of 2025, located in key cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong and Da Nang. The remaining eight sites are planned to be completed by the first half of 2027. Furthermore, Charge+ has announced on its website an aim to install 5,000 charging points across Vietnam by 2030.

Of note, there are a number of Chinese EV makers looking to expand in Vietnam such as BYD, Haima and Chery. This is partly due to new antidumping tariffs on electric vehicles from China in the US and EU and government incentives for electric car buyers in Vietnam.

Chinese EV makers, however, are facing a challenge due to a lack of charging infrastructure. Notably, Vietnam’s EV charging network is mostly owned by VinFast, a subsidiary of Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup. The firm has already developed more than 150,000 EV charging ports nationwide but currently restricts access exclusively to its own EV users.

The participation of Charge+ in expanding the charging network for other electric vehicle brands in Vietnam could help reduce difficulties for Chinese EV producers entering the Vietnamese market.
