Vietnam’s imports of plastics fell to US$1.02 billion in August, down 5.87 percent from July, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
Year-to-date imports reached US$8.35 billion.
China was the top supplier at US$323.97 million, down 3.04 percent, accounting for 30.24 percent of total imports.
South Korea followed with US$196.66 million, up 6.52 percent, while Taiwan ranked third with US$88.52 million, down 17.56 percent.
The US supplied US$86.94 million, down 12.46 percent, while Saudi Arabia dropped 26.50 percent to US$64.23 million.
Thailand contributed US$62.50 million, a 2.09 percent increase, and Japan US$43.13 million, down 14.16 percent.
Malaysia rose 7.12 percent to US$33.27 million, while Singapore fell 18.26 percent to US$25.00 million.
Smaller suppliers such as Russia and India recorded strong double-digit growth, while European partners like Germany, France, and Belgium saw mostly declines or modest gains.
The data shows Vietnam’s reliance on regional partners, with China, South Korea, and Taiwan together supplying nearly 60 percent of plastics.
Volatility among Middle Eastern and Western sources underscores the commodity’s sensitivity to global petrochemical market swings.
