The Korean Trade Commission has launched an investigation into cold-rolled stainless steel imported from Vietnam. Specifically, it is assessing the imports of three companies: Yongjin Metal Technology, TVL, and TVL Steel Production and Construction Joint Stock Company.
Steel has been at the centre of a number of antidumping investigations of late. Hot-rolled coil steel from China in particular has been possibly the most prominent, however, Vietnam has also started to feature particularly as a means of circumventing anti-dumping tariffs elsewhere. For example, earlier this month the EU extended anti-dumping measures on cold-rolled stainless steel from Indonesia to include Vietnam to avoid Indonesian steel producers from using the country as a workaround.
That said, Vietnam has also had its own problems with steel imports. Local steel producers Hoa Phat Steel and Formosa earlier this year made overtures to the Ministry of Industry and Trade with respect to launching a local anti dumping investigation into Chinese steel imports. Nothing has come of this as yet.
