In the week following the Lunar New Year, Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport, was welcoming up to 38,000 international arrivals a day, VN Express is reporting. This puts the airport well over its capacity of 10 million arrivals a year or around 27,000 passengers a day.
Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport also has overcrowding issues. But whereas a second airport for Vietnam’s biggest city is currently under construction, plans to expand Noi Bai’s capacity are still in the planning phase, though claims have been made that an expansion will be completed by 2026.
Furthermore,it was reported back in December that overcrowding at airports in Vietnam had cost the national carrier US$20 million last year.
