Garments & textiles: Vietnam textile material imports down 1.22 percent in August

Vietnam imported US$580.74 million of textile, leather and footwear materials in August, down 1.22 percent from July, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.

Year-to-date imports stood at US$4.74 billion.

China was the dominant supplier, providing US$374.89 million in August, up 7.09 percent, and accounting for nearly 60 percent of the total.

The United States, Taiwan, and South Korea followed, though all three recorded month-on-month declines.

Thailand and Japan also saw lower shipments compared to July.

The data reflects Vietnam’s ongoing dependence on China for raw materials to feed its garments and footwear industries, which remain critical export sectors.
